Mohns, DMRs Place 6th to Open 2016 MW Indoor Championships

Day 1 Results | Day 1 Team Scores

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico track & field team opened its title defense at the 2016 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships Thursday with a trio of sixth-place finishes.

Kyra Mohns placed sixth in the women’s pentathlon and the Lobos’ men’s and women’s distance medley relay also took sixth in the respective races on the first day of the three-day championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Both the men’s team and the women’s team sit in sixth place through the first day, where just three events — the pentathlon and the DMRs — went final.

The women, who have won the last two MW indoor titles, have six total team points, while the men, who have won the last three MW indoor titles, have three points.

She added three points to the Lobos’ team score, with the other three coming from the women’s DMR.

The men’s quartet of Adam Monroe, Isaac Gonzales, David Banwell-Clode and Chris Graham finished in 10:20.97.

In the heptathlon, Lam and Clafton shined in the first four events of the seven-eventer.
