FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – A day after senior Shayla King missed the cut for the Olympic Trials in the 50 meter freestyle by .01 seconds at the U.S. Winter Nationals, sophomore Morgan Ginnis came agonizingly close as well. She missed the cut in the same event by just .03 seconds on the final day of competition.
“Both girls were very close,” UNM head coach Kunio Kono said. “But overall we had a good weekend. I’m happy with the results, but I’m sad they were so close and couldn’t make it.”
This was the final event of the calendar year for the Lobos. UNM has just two dual meets, plus a diving meet at Air Force, before the conference championships in February.
“I think this weekend gave all the girls a lot of confidence going into the Mountain West Championships,” Kono said. “All the girls swam very well this weekend.”
Senior Kristin Walker, junior Abigail Wheeler and freshmen Adriana Palomino and Mareike Foester also competed at the event for UNM. Final results from the entire competition can be found here.
