Meet Results vs. San Diego State and Washington State

SAN DIEGO – The University of New Mexico swimming and diving team struggled against two of the top teams in the nation Saturday as it fell to San Diego State and Washington State. The Cougars entered the weekend ranked No. 32 in the nation, and the Aztecs were fifth in CollegeSwimming.com’s mid-major poll. UNM fell 195-93 to WSU and 208-92 to SDSU.
UNM’s highligh was its 200-yard freestyle relay team, which finished second in a time of 1:34.36. It was the third-fastest time ever recorded at the Aztec Aquaplex in that event. Adriana Palomino also continued her superb freshman season with a second-place finish in the 1000-yard free with a time of 10:19.08.
Kaela McKee also posted an excellent time of 56.97 in the 100-yard back, finishing barely half a second behind the winner in one of the closest races of the day. Morgan Ginnis placed fourth in the 50-free with a time of 23.85 and fifth in the 100-free with a time of 52.43.
Mareike Foister also continued her strong start to her freshman year by placing third in the 200-yard breast, touching the wall in 2:21.83.
In the diving portion Ally Concepcion placed third in the 1-meter diving with 255.60 points and fourth in the 3-meter diving with 259.12 points.
UNM has just one final event of the calendar year, the U.S. Winter Nationals for swimmers Dec. 3-5 in Federal Way, Wash.
