SKILLMAN, N.J. — The University of New Mexico’s top doubles tandem of Hayden Sabatka and Bart Van Leijsen earned a preseason ranking on No. 29 in the ITA rankings that were released today.
Last year, Sabatka was paired mostly with Van Leijsen in doubles play and they posted a 17-8 record. The duo also had an eight-game winning streak, which was the longest for Lobos last season.
“This ranking is a nice starting point for these guys. We feel their ceiling is very high as a pair,” said head coach and 2015 Mountain West Coach of the Year Bart Scott. “They really started to gel last year, they made a run to the regional final and went 14-4 at the end of the season.”
Scott said the pair are excited to get the season underway this weekend at the Midland Invitational. They enjoy playing doubles together, Scott said, and it shows on the court.
