ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –  University of New Mexico Swimming and Diving is bringing in the new year with its final home meet of the season against Colorado State. This weekend will also stand as Senior Day for eight Lobos.

Last year UNM traveled to Fort Collins, Colo. and suffered a 113-185 point loss against CSU. This season the Rams will be coming to the Seidler Natatorium with a full roster of 30 athletes: 23 letterwinners and seven freshmen. They hold a 3-3 dual meet record and finished in 10th place recently at the Georgia Tech Invite.

Saturday’s meet will prove for an interesting matchup as the Lobos look to redeem themselves from last season’s defeat. UNM is entering the 2015 season after intense training and focus from the winter intercession. The team also allowed some time of taper before hitting the water again this weekend.

Eight seniors will be honored for their commitment and contributions towards the UNM Swimming and Diving program. Amber Amr, Caitlin Gardiner, Anna Lilliestrom, Carlie McGregor, Taylor McGregor, Samantha Moss, Sarah Weihe, and Anastasia Welchert count as the 2014-15 Lobo seniors who will bid their farewells.

“Those seniors were all sophomores when I came to UNM. It makes me feel like time is flying by so fast. It makes me sad and happy at the same time. Our senior class is the biggest class on our team and they are leading our program,” says head coach Kunio Kono.

“I really hope that our underclassmen learn a lot from them. I am so proud of them and appreciate what they have done for our UNM Swimming and Diving program.”

The Lobos are expecting a challenge from the Rams but have prepared well for competition.

Action will begin Sat, Jan. 17 with springboard events starting at 10:15 a.m. The 200-yard medley relay will follow to kick off the swimming races.
