ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Garrett Adcock, Dakota Cox and Reece White were named Capital One/CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District for CoSIDA District VII. The honors advance all three to the national ballot for Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration.
The three players bring UNM’s total so far this season to nine Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District selections. The trio are UNM’s first football Academic All-District selections since Matt Raymer in 2012.
As a conference, the Mountain West had six total selections, meaning UNM had half of the conference’s total on the team. Fresno State, Air Force and Nevada each had one player on the various district teams. District VII comprises every Division I institution in the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Utah and Idaho.
Adcock’s grade point average of 4.02 as a biology major was the highest in District VII. He was one of five offensive lineman selected for the squad. Cox was one of three linebackers and has a 3.53 GPA in journalism/mass communications. Both Adcock and Cox are sophomores, while junior Reece White has a 3.51 GPA in business administration. White is the only tight end selected.
With the three players advancing to the national ballot, they will be attempting to become ninth individual to earn Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, and the first since Zach Arnett was named back in 2008 as a linebacker. All told, eight individuals have picked up 11 Academic All-America nods.
