Sophomore Guard Demetrius Walker
On the defensive effort put together by the team
“Tonight we really couldn’t get our offense going. No one really made too many shots, so we had to put emphasis on locking up and trying to make it tough for Idaho State to score.”
On the defenses Idaho St. employed vs. the Lobos
“It was weird. We really hadn’t been through that before. But Coach did a great job of preparing us for that at yesterday’s practice and the walkthrough today. We knew that they were going to throw 3-2, 1-3-1, 2-3, play man and even press us sometimes. I feel that we were prepared and ready to go against all those defenses.”
On the balanced scoring
“We’re a very deep team. Tony’s usually the one who gets hot, and he ends up leading us in scoring. But tonight, he wasn’t really hitting his shot, and everybody else just started picking it up offensively. We all just made emphasis playing defense. All-in-all, we came up with the win, and that’s all we can be happy about.”
On what the team learned in Anaheim at the 76 Classic
“We have to play defense. We have to. If we don’t play defense, we won’t beat anybody. There’s going to be nights, like tonight, where offensively we just can’t make any shots, and that’s when we have to stop people. In Anaheim, that really hit us in the face when we weren’t D-ing [defending] up and we lost to Santa Clara, so the next two games we put emphasis on playing defense, and that’s why we were 2-1 at Anaheim.”
Senior Forward A.J. Hardeman
On the defensive effort by the Lobos
“Our defense, that’s our best offense. We get out there on the court and play hard.”
On the lack of frontcourt scoring
“It’s not frustrating. We just have to keep playing hard and build our confidence for when we play bigger teams.”
On the even scoring distribution
“We were just talking about that outside; trying to figure out the last time we beat somebody by 20 with nobody in double figures. We had good contributions from everybody. We all played hard and Coach Alford was happy with our effort.”
