Quotes from UNM Head Coach Ritchie McKay:
“We stunk in the second half. We stunk in the first half to be honest
with you. We were just fortunate to keep it close. We didn’t bring
the same effort that the team has been characteristic. We just talked
about some of the reasons why. We are not deep enough yet that we can
have off nights from guys and expect to win games on the road. I was
very disappointed in our effort. We certainly have mentioned it
already and will have it changed by Monday.”
“Not one starter came out with the sense of urgency, other than
probably Javin (Tindall), that you need to win in a game like this.
The starters are not the sole blame. We weren’t good as a team and I
am disappointed in that. I felt like we were getting it to the point
where we could beat anyone in our league. We couldn’t have beat BYU on
a neutral floor the way we played tonight.”
On BYU’s defense against Danny Granger:
“Danny had an off night. I think he let some adversity get to him. He
missed a couple of shots early, and lost a little confidence, which
isn’t characteristic of Danny. A good player, which Danny is, finds
other ways to contribute, but I’ve never seen him get just three
rebounds in a game.
