Megan Betsa enters her first season as assistant coach with the UNM softball program in 2017-18. Betsa earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan where she played all four years for the Wolverines and was a three-time All-American.
“I am very excited to have Megan as our pitching coach,” said Congleton. “She has played at the highest level and comes from a winning tradition and culture. I know Megan has a competitive mindset and has what it takes to work with our pitchers to build a winning staff. I am confident that her dedication to pitching will be a positive addition to not only our pitching staff but to the entire team.”
For the Wolverines, Betsa worked her way to be one of the top pitchers in the country. She was a three-time NFCA All-America selection and two-time Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. She is the only pitcher in school history to record three 300-strikeout seasons.
The accolades continue for Betsa as she was a three-time NFCA All-Great Lakes Region First Team selection, a four-time All-Big Ten selection, an NFCA Division I Top-10 Finalist for Freshman of the Year, NFCA National Pitcher of the Week (April 21, 2015 & March 8, 2016) and was selected to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team in 2015. She ranks in the top five among Michigan’s career leaders in nearly every pitching category, including second in no-hitters (6), third in wins (102) and strikeouts (1,201), and fourth in shutouts (37).
Betsa was drafted seventh overall to the Akron Racers in the 2017 NPF Draft. Her first game, start and strikeout in the NPF was on June 3 against the Chicago Bandits. Her first win and complete game in the NPF came on June 22 against Beijing. The Akron Racers went on to compete in the 2017 NPF Championships in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Aug. 17-20.
