Link joined the Lobo Family in January of 2026, coming to UNM from Missouri, where he spent six seasons as Special Teams Coordinator, while also holding a dual role of Tight Ends Coach for two of those seasons.
Previous Coaching Stops
Missouri (2020-25): Link served as Special Teams Coordinator for his six-year stint in Columbia, where he oversaw a unit that recorded at least one blocked kick or punt in five of his six seasons.
Overall, Link coached nine players to postseason honors, including 2021 All-America kicker Harrison Mevis, who plays in the NFL. Mevis, dubbed the “Thicker Kicker”, was twice named All-SEC under Link’s tutelage, and he was twice a Lou Groza Semifinalist. Mevis set Missouri records for career field goals with 86, career field goal percentage at .869, points with 405, and career 50+ yard field goals with 13.
At Missouri, Link’s kickoff coverage unit ranked in the top-10 of the FBS three consecutive seasons, including leading the nation in 2022, allowing just 13.64 return yards per game.
Appalachian State (2019): Spent one season with the Mountaineers as Special Teams Coordinator. Appalachian State led the FBS in blocked kicks with seven, blocking five placements and two punts. Three special teams units ranked in the top-30 of the FBS, with punt return coverage ranking 15th, kickoff returns ranking 16th, and kickoff return coverage ranking 28th.
Louisiana Tech (2018): Link spent the 2018 season as the special teams coordinator at Louisiana Tech University. While there, he helped the Bulldogs cap an eight-win season with a SoFi Hawai’i Bowl title, defeating Hawai’i, 31-14. On the season, Link had the Bulldogs fourth nationally with four blocked kicks
Auburn (2010, 2013-15): Link spent four seasons at Auburn over two stints. His first was in 2010, when he was a special teams quality control coach, and his second, from 2013-15, was as a special teams and offensive analyst.
With Auburn, he went to a pair of BSC National title games, including winning the title in 2010 as the Tigers went 14-0. In 2013, the Tigers went 12-2, losing to No. 1 Florida State in the title tilt.
Montana State (2011-12): Spent two seasons as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach for the Bobcats of Montana State. While there, the Bobcats won back-to-back Big Sky titles and advanced to the FCS quarterfinals both seasons.
Iowa State (2006-08): Link served three years on staff at Iowa State in a variety of different roles. For the 2006 season, Link was a graduate assistant working with the offensive line before being promoted to the Cyclones’ director of high school relations and assistant director of football operations for his final two years.
Drake (2004-05): Began his collegiate coaching career at Drake, his alma mater. He worked as a graduate assistant with the defensive line in 2004 before being promoted to defensive line coach for 2005. In 2005, he coached defensive tackle Chris Daniels to Second Team All-American honors.
PLAYING CAREER - DRAKE (1998-02): Link lettered for three seasons (2000-02) at Drake, starting his final two seasons as an offensive line coach. He helped the Bulldogs to the 2000 Pioneer Football League Championship, and he was named Honorable Mention All-Pioneer League as a senior in 2002. He graduated from Drake in 2003 with a degree in secondary education and earned his master’s in executive leadership from Drake in 2008.
