Scott Holsopple

Scott Holsopple, who has had stops at Georgia State, Kansas, Florida, Kentucky, Marquette, Penn State and Notre Dame in a 19-year career that has been spent all in Division I, was named the Director of Athletic Performance for The University of New Mexico in January of 2019.  He will serve as the head strength coach for the Lobo Football team.

This is not the first time Holsopple will have worked with Bob Davie as in the year 2000 Holsopple served as an intern at Notre Dame under Mickey Marotti, one of the most respected strength coaches in the country.

Prior to UNM, he spent the past four seasons with Georgia State as the head strength coach, two of which saw the Panthers play in the AutoNation Cure Bowl.  Previously, Holsopple served as the director of football strength and conditioning at Kansas under Charlie Weis.

Holsopple spent the 2007-2011 seasons with the Florida Gators as the top assistant with the Gators under Marotti, who is now with Ohio State.  While with the Gators, Holsopple was a part of the 2008 BCS National Champions and back-to-back 13-1 teams.

Holsopple also has experience with some of the best men’s basketball teams in the nation, including one year with Kentucky and six years with Marquette, the final five as head strength and conditioning coach.  With Marquette he worked with Dwyane Wade as Marquette made it to the 2003 Final Four.

His first collegiate job was as a strength and conditioning assistant at Penn State, his alma mater, where he helped develop and implement a comprehensive, year-round strength, conditioning and agility program for the school’s 28 athletic teams.  He began his career in the field as an intern at Notre Dame under Marotti as a part of Bob Davie‘s staff. He also served the strength and conditioning coordinator at Ken Chertow’s Olympian Wrestling Camp.

A native of Happy Valley, Pa., Holsopple earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Penn State in 2000. He earned All-America recognition as a boxer at Penn State.
