Colby Meeks begins his second season as an assistant coach for The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team. With the Lobos he handles all matters of on-the-court coaching as well as scheduling and recruiting.
In Meeks’ first season with the Lobos, UNM went 8-13, but 7-3 down the stretch including a sweep of regional rivals New Mexico State and UTEP, and a 4-1 Mountain West record.
Meeks came to UNM from the Cameron University in Oklahoma where he served for nearly two years as a graduate assisant tennis coach for both the men’s and women’s programs in Lawton, Oklahoma. With Cameron he assisted in logistical planning of travel and recruiting, handled practice schedules and on-the-court coaching, strength programs and assistated with fundraising and facility management.
With Cameron he was honored by the ITA as the both the men’s and women’s ITA South Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year, and he helped Cameron advance to the Elite Eight on the men’s side and to the regional qualifiers on the women’s side.
He has also served as an assistant tennis professional at San Angelo Country Club and Wichita Falls Country Club.
Meeks played for Tyler Junior College before moving on to Midwestern State, where he advanced to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals after helping his team to a Lone Star Conference championship. Meeks was named the Lone Star Newcomer of the Year and was All-Conference in doubles, moving up as high as No. 9 in the national rankngs. At Tyler, he helped the team to an NJCAA National title, and an NJCAA runner-up finish.
