Becky Walters became the Lobos’ volunteer assistant in spring 2013 and helps with individual workouts, opponent scouting and other duties as assigned.
A native of Austin, Texas, Walters played two seasons of college volleyball at Cincinnati (2001-02) and Texas State (2002-03). She was a standout her freshman season with the Bearcats, leading the team in kills (467) and aces (53). Walters helped Cincinnati claim the 2001 Conference USA regular season championship and make it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history en route to being named AVCA Midwest region Freshman of the Year, C-USA Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference.
She earned C-USA Player of the Week accolades twice that season and was named to the University of San Francisco Molten Golden Gate Classic All-Tournament team and the University of Hawaii Aston Imua Wahine Challenge All-Tournament team.
Walters has 10 years of club volleyball coaching experience, having spent six with Austin Juniors and four with New Mexico Juniors. She currently serves on the New Mexico Juniors Board of Directors.
In addition to club, she spent seven years coaching high school volleyball in Tennessee, Texas and New Mexico. While with LaVergne High School in Rutherford County, Tenn., Walters mentored the Wolverines to back-to-back district runner-up finishes in 2004-05. She spent 2006-07 at St. Stephens in Austin, Texas, leading her team to back-to-back district championships.
Walters spent 2009-11 with Sandia Prep in Albuquerque, and coached the Sun Devils to a district championship in 2009 and a district runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2011. Sandia Prep went from being unranked to making it to the New Mexico state tournament final four in 2011.
Walters has also instructed private lessons for 13 years.
Her husband, Mike, is in the United States Air Force and the couple has three daughters: Maddison, Makenna and Macee. Her family attends Crosspointe Christian Church where Walters volunteers in the food bank and teaches Sunday School.
In her free time, Walters likes to spend time with her family and go hunting. She is currently finishing her degree in communications through Ashford University and is expecting to graduate in April 2014.
