The Lobos are 1-0 on the season after a 100-60 victory over Utah Tech on Monday. Preseason Mountain West Player of the Year Jake Hall led UNM with 30 points, becoming just the eighth player in program history to score at least 30 points in a season opener.
Northern Arizona is 0-1 this year after an 89-77 season-opening loss at UNLV on Tuesday. The Lumberjacks led by as many as 12 in the first half in Vegas and shot 11-23 from behind the arc.
Saturday’s game is the first regular season meeting between the schools in 17 years, although UNM defeated NAU in an exhibition game last season. The Lobos lead the all-time series 43-40, with most of contests occurring between the 1920s and 1950s when both schools were members of the Border Conference.
The Lobos conclude the three-game homestand on Tuesday when they host Little Rock. Game time is 7 p.m. and the game will air on MW.
