PROVO, Utah --- Alberto Perez won twice to reach the quarterfinals of the ITA Mountain Regional, moving two wins closer to the UTA Championships. Perez is the lone Lobo remaining after Dario Ciobotaru lost in the Round of 16 and David Schwarc and Philip Bosin lost in the Round of 32.

Additionally, UNM's doubles team of Max Relic and Perez lost 8-7 (7-2) to the No. 1-seeded UNLV team, Marko Maksimovic and Kemal Arda Karakas, in the Round of 16.

In the quarterfinals, Perez will face fellow unseeded player Dylan Davies of Denver. Perez reached the quarterfinals after beating Boise State's Arsene Pougault, the No.7 seed. He won that match 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). He also defeated No. 11 seed Eliot Nobel of Utah State, winning 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Ciobotaru nearly got to the quarters as well, but he lost in the Round of 16, falling 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) to No. 4-seeded Xavier Calvelo of Utah State. Ciobotaru won his opening match of the day, defeating Boise State's Izan Orgiles, 6-3, 7-5.

Two other Lobos played on Thursday, with both Philip Bosin and David Schwarc both losing their opening matches in the Round of 32. Bosin lost to Utah's Simeon Terziev 6-4, 6-1, and Schwarc lost 6-4, 6-3 to Nevada's Axel Huysmans.
