LAWRENCE, Kan. – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play Monday the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational with the first two rounds at Lawrence Country Club. The Lobos shot 49-over during the opening 36 holes to finish the day in 11th place.
New Mexico shot 27-over in the first round before posting a 22-over total in the second round. Host Kansas is the only team under par after the first day at 3-under. Cal (13-over), Delaware (15-over), UC Davis (29-over) are second through fourth, while Longwood and St. Thomas are tied for fifth at 34-over.
Freshman Julia Gelma is the top Lobo on the leaderboard after two rounds with a 11-over total. Ava Cepeda and Chelsea Truong are each at 12-over, while Ausanee Udkamtiang is at 15-over and Ciara Rushmer is at 20-over.
The final round of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational is Tuesday at the Lawrence Country Club.
