LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- Alberto Perez came back with a second-set win and took a 2-0 lead in the third set, but couldn't close out Andreas Loizas of Grand Canyon, who won 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Peez dropped the first set 6-4 in a close affair. At 4-4, Perez forced deuce, but Loizas took the game and then broke to win the first set.
Loizas opened the second set with a 2-0 lead, but Perez turned his game around and won the next eight games. Perez went on a dominant run, winning 24 of the set's final 29 points.
Perez then broke serve on deuce to open the third set, then held serve to take a 2-0 lead. After Loizas held serve, he broke Perez, winning the next two points to make it 2-2. That ignited a run in which Loizas won 14 straight points to jump out to a 5-2 lead. Perez couldn't hold serve in the eighth game, and Loizas won the title and earned an automatic berth in the ITA Masters in two weeks.
Unseeded Perez took out two seeds, including the No. 1 seed, going 4-1 as UNM closed out the fall season.
