LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- Alberto Perez defeated No. 4 Remy Tregoures 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals of the Mountain West Qualfiers. He will now face UNLV's No. 1 seed, Marko Maksimovic, in the semifinals on Saturday.
Perez was able to take the opening set when, tied at four, he served out a love game to go up 5-4, and then took the opening set with four out of five points, losing his only point on an ace. That gave Perez a 6-4 opening-set win.
The second set saw four straight games go to deuce, and Perez won the first three to take a commanding 3-0 lead. After Tregoures got on the board with a hold on a deuce point, the two players traded games on serve for the rest of the match, with Perez winning 12 of 14 points on serve over his final three service games.
Perez capitalized on four double faults, winning 70% (39 of 56) service points. Perez will face No. 1 seed Marko Maksimovic of UNLV. Maksimovic defeated Dario Ciobataru to advance to the semifinals, winning 6-2, 6-1.
