SHIZUOKA, Japan – The New Mexico men’s golf team concluded play on Friday in Japan with the final round of the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League, its season-opening event. The Lobos finished the event, which featured collegiate teams from five countries around the world, in second place at 28-under, while Johnnie Clark took home the individual title at 11-under.
Clark shot rounds of 69-67-66 to finish the tournament at 11-under and post a one-shot victory over a pair of Japanese collegiate players. It is his second career collegiate win, having won once last season.
Nihon University from Japan won the team title at 36-under, while the Lobos were second at 28-under after a 6-under final round at Grand Fields Country Club. TCU finished third at 21-under, while Tohoku Fukushi of Japan was fourth at 17-under and Seattle Univ. rounded out the top five at 8-over.
Clark was joined in the top 10 by Thayer Plewe, who shot a final round 70 to finish T-6th at 8-under for the week. Clark Sonnenberg was T-11th at 2-under and Wyatt Provence was T-17th at 1-under. Dylan Park rounded out the lineup at 5-over in his Lobo debut.
The tournament, which is in its third season, featured collegiate teams from Japan, Scotland, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States.
The Lobos return to action Sept. 13-15 with the Canadian Collegiate Invitational in Ontario.
