LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- Toa Fa'avae, who set career highs in passing yards and rushing yards in leading UNM to a 42-18 victory over New Mexico State, was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, giving UNM a weekly honor for the second straight game. Grant Glasgow was named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week after Week 3.

Along with Fa'avae, Liam Szarka, Air Force quarterback, was named Offensive Player of the Week; UNLV's Cam Santee was named the Defensive Player of the Week; and Nevada kicker Joe McFadden was the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Fa'avae is the first Lobo quarterback since Isaiah Chavez in 2021 to be named Freshman of the Week, and overall he is the sixth Lobo to earn the award.

In his first game as the No. 1 quarterback, Fa’avae set career highs in rushing yards 57 yards) and threw for 177 yards, also a career high. He went 10-for-17 passing on the day, and after starting the day 2-for-7 for 34 yards, he went 8-for-10 the rest of the way for 133 yards, including a three-yard touchdown pass.

The Lobos now open Mountain West play against UTEP in the first conference meeting between the two schools since 1998. UNM brings a nine-game home winning streak into the contest.
