HONOLULU — New Mexico volleyball fell to Hawai‘i in straight sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-18) in the second match of the teams’ Mountain West opening weekend Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Lobos return home next week to continue MW play against Nevada at The Pit – Powered by Nusenda on Oct. 2 and 4.
Mina Stanojevic led the Lobos with 12 kills and 10 digs for a double-double – her team-leading fifth of the season – while adding a pair of service aces. Camila Canedo collected a team-high 14 digs, while Madeleine Miller dished out all 27 of UNM’s assists and finished with nine digs. Addison France added six kills and nine digs.
UNM was at its best offensively in the opening set, hitting .207 and keeping the score close before Hawai‘i took it 25-20. The Lobos also started the second set strong, building a 6-2 lead, but the Rainbow Wahine rallied to take the set. UNM continued to battle in the third before Hawai‘i completed the sweep.
Both teams finished even with 53 digs apiece. New Mexico totaled five blocks and four aces, while Hawai‘i held a 45-29 edge in kills and hit .223 to the Lobos’ .109. UNM moves to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in MW play.
