LUBBOCK, Texas – The New Mexico women’s golf team concluded play Wednesday at the Red Raider Invitational with the final round at the Rawls Golf Course on the campus of Texas Tech. The Lobos shot 5-over during the final 18 holes to finish the event in third place at 24-over.
BYU took the title with a 5-over total, two shots ahead of host Texas Tech at 7-over. The Lobos (24-over), Abilene Christian (32-over) and Sam Houston (35-over) rounded out the top five. It marks the first time since 2022-23 that the Lobos have opened the season with a pair of top-three finishes. That year UNM finished the season with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championship.
Ausanee Udkamtiang and Chelsea Truong led UNM during Wednesday’s round, each shooting an even par final round. Udkamtiang finished T-11th at 6-over and Truong finished T-13th at 7-over. Ava Cepeda was UNM’s top finisher, shooting a 3-over final round to finish T-5th at 2-over. Ciara Rushmer and Rebecca Galasso each T-20th at 10-over, while Lena Tremouille finished T-25th while playing as an individual.
“We played much better today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “We finished well and stayed in the moment. To have six players finish in the top-25 individually says something about this team.”
The Lobos return to action next week for the NB3 Match Play at Twin Warriors. The event, featuring both the UNM men’s and women’s teams, will feature team match play at Twin Warriors Golf Club on the Santa Ana Pueblo and will air on the Golf Channel.
