MUSKOKA LAKES, Ont. – The New Mexico men’s golf team started strong at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational, holding the first-round lead at the event. The Lobos shot 8-under over the first 18 holes at Oviinbyrd Golf Club to hold a six-shot lead

New Mexico was one of just two teams in the 13-team field to shoot under par on Sunday. Mississippi State is second at 2-under, while Notre Dame is third at even par. Rutgers at 5-over and Santa Clara at 6-over round out the top five.  

Three Lobos are tied for second on the individual leaderboard, as Johnnie Clark, Wyatt Provence and Thayer Plewe each shot a 3-under 68 in the first round. Oliver Scriven, making his UNM debut, shot 1-over, while Clark Sonnenberg rounded out the lineup at 8-over.

The tournament continues Monday and concludes Tuesday at Oviinbyrd GC.
