ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— University of New Mexico Head Coach Nicole Orgeron and staff have signed infielder Emerson Meggers for the 2027 season, as announced on Thursday.
“I’m excited to add Emerson to our team; she has experience in the Mountain West and maturity being an upperclassman,” commented Orgeron. “Emerson adds depth on the infield and has all of the physical tools to be an impact player in our lineup.
“She wants to be coached and wants to win and is a great fit with our current roster.”
Meggers, an incoming senior from Vacaville, California, comes to UNM following a season at Abilene Christian and two seasons at Utah State.
Last season, she played in all 48 games with 46 starts, and of her 46 starts, 41 were at second, four at shortstop and one at first base. Beyond her versatility in the infield, Meggers provided versatility in the lineup, batting in all nine spots in the order throughout the season, the only Wildcat to do so.
During her junior season, Meggers hit .244 behind 30 hits, seven doubles, three triples and three home runs, and accounted for 14 RBI. She led ACU with 18 walks, and when she reached base, was 5-8 in stolen base attempts, tied for the second-most stolen bases on the team. The infielder recorded six multiple-hit games and five multiple-RBI games.
In her two seasons at Utah State, Meggers played in 77 games with 12 starts. Her sophomore season, the California native hit .226 with 12 hits, three doubles, a triple and six RBI, along with six walks while playing in 41 games with nine starts. Meggers went a season-best 3-3 against Texas A&M and drove in a season-high two runs against Purdue.
As a freshman, she appeared in 36 games with three starts.
The Lobos return 16 players from the 2026 roster and signed five freshmen for the upcoming 2027 season.
