ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- It feels like it just started. The Lobo women's tennis team, sitting at 12-9 on the season and 3-5 in the Mountain West, takes on Utah State on Friday at 11 am at McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium on Senior Day.
The team will honor its lone senior, Bente Vandeputte, who has returned from missing all of 2024-25 with an injury to hold down No. 1 singles for UNM this year.
The Aggies are 10-8 and just ahead of UNM in the standings at 4-4. The Lobos, with three games left, have a slim shot at a first-round bye in the Mountain West, as they play two of the three teams they are chasing for that spot with three games left. UNM finishes the weekend in first place, Boise State, before taking on Air Force in Colorado next week to close the regular season.
UNM split last weekend with a thrilling 4-3 win over Colorado State before falling 4-1 to Wyoming, with both matches at McKinnon. UNM is currently tied for eighth, but just one game out of fifth place. The top four teams in the league earn a first-round bye into the quarterfinals.
