MARICOPA, Ariz. – The New Mexico women’s golf team concluded play in its final regular season event on Wednesday with the final round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. The Lobos shot 4-over during the final 18 holes at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club to finish T-12th at 24-over for the event.

No. 22 Iowa State won the event with a 26-under total. Sacramento State and BYU were the only other teams to finish under par, tying for second at 3-under. Grand Canyon and UNLV tied for fourth at 2-over.

Ava Cepeda led UNM on Wednesday, shooting a 2-under final round 70, her team-leading fifth round under par this season. She finished the tournament T-31st at 4-over. Chelsea Truong also finished T-31st at 4-over after a final round 73. Rebecca Galasso also shot a 1-over 73 in the final round, while Maria Caparros Levin shot 76 on Wednesday and Ciara Rushmer shot 77.

“It wasn’t how we wanted to finish the regular season with some of our conference teams here,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Our high second round is what really got us. We’ll be ready for the championship in a few weeks.”

The Lobos return to action Apr. 21-23 with the Mountain West Championship, held at Mission Hills Country Club in Palm Springs, Calif.
