MARICOPA, Ariz. – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play Tuesday at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic with the first and second rounds of play at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. The Lobos shot 20-over during the first 36 holes to be in 13th place after day one.      

No. 22 Iowa State holds the 36-hole lead at 13-under, as the Cyclones are the only team under par after Tuesday’s play. BYU is second at even par, while New Mexico State (3-over), Sacramento State (4-over), and UNLV (6-over) round out the top five.      

Chelsea Truong led the Lobos on Tuesday, as she shot rounds of 71 and 76 to be in the individual top-30 at 3-over. Ciara Rushmer is at 5-over through two rounds, while Ava Cepeda is at 6-over, Maria Caparros Levin is at 7-over and Rebecca Galasso is at 13-over.

The tournament concludes Wednesday in Maricopa.
