ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s basketball program announced Tuesday (Apr. 28) the signing of two more players to its 2026 freshman class. Dax Hall, a 6-1 guard from California and Benjamin Schuch, a 6-9 forward from Austria, will be freshmen on the Lobos’ 2026-27 roster.
The 2025-26 CIF San Diego Section Player of the Year, Hall averaged 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game as a senior at Santa Fe Christian. He never scored fewer than 17 points in a game during his senior season, posting nine 30-point performances, including a season-high 42 against Cathedral Catholic. He will join his older brother, Jake, on the Lobos’ roster next season.
“Dax’s mentality and competitive edge is exactly what we want in our program,” said head coach Eric Olen. “He is coming off one of the most accomplished high school seasons in San Diego basketball history and it showed up most importantly in winning. Dax is a physical, confident guard who impacts both ends. He has improved every year and we think there’s a lot more there. We’re excited to have him in the Lobo family.”
“My decision to sign with New Mexico was evident during my visit,” said Hall. “The Pit and the fanbase that supports New Mexico is a very attractive thing when choosing a school. Beyond that, I just had such a great relationship with the staff, who have been recruiting me since my sophomore year of high school. I have so much trust that they will put me in a great position to succeed, so it was clear that UNM was the place for me.”
Schuch comes to New Mexico with extensive experience in Europe, playing for his native Austria, both at the senior and youth levels, and for his club team, Zentro Basket Madrid in Spain. Last year he made his debut with the senior Austrian National Team, where he was teammates with incoming UNM transfer Imran Suljanovic. At the 2025 FIBA U20 EuroBasket, Schuch led Austria by averaging 13.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 5.9 rebounds per game.
“Benjamin’s versatility and high-level basketball IQ will energize Lobo fans from day one,” said Olen. “He’s a unique talent, combining size and length with elite vision and natural playmaking instincts. Beni has shown consistent growth throughout our recruitment whether competing with the Austrian National Team or with his club team. We are fired up that he chose to be part of our Lobo family.”
“I chose New Mexico because I believe it’s the right fit for me a basketball player and as a person,” said Schuch. “The staff is absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to start working. Also, the fans were a crucial part of decision. Seeing the attendance and the atmosphere in The Pit is just incredible.”
