PULLMAN, Wash. -- New Mexico Baseball took a 3-0 lead right away but didn’t plate another run as the Lobos fell 10-3 to Washington State in their series opener Friday evening at Bailey-Brayton Field.

Karsen Waslefsky (1 R) continued his hot streak with a double and a single to lead an eight-hit night for the Lobos’ bats, with Luke Mansy (2-for-4) also finishing with multiple knocks. Anthony Diaz (1 R, 1 BB) led things off with a single and Akili Carris (1 RBI) brought in the third run of the opening frame with a two-out base hit, with Khalil Walker (1 BB) singling in the fourth.

In the top of the ninth, Lachlan Maude came up with a knock in a pinch-hit situation for the second game in a row to round things out.

Cristian Mogen (3.2 IP, 9 H, 8 R / 8 ER, 3 BB, 1 K) was jumped for four runs in the bottom of the first as the Cougs took the lead, putting up a zero in the second but surrendering four more over the next two frames to cue his early departure – he was tagged with the loss to drop to 1-2 on the year.

RHP Tyler Do (1 IP, 0 H, 2 R / 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K) got the Lobos out of the jam in the fourth but ran into trouble of his own in the fifth, with LHP Matt Romero (2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K) and LHP Matthew Cornelius (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K) taking over in the eighth and making it three innings in a row without a Washington State run after their early outburst.
