ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s basketball program announced Friday (Apr. 24) the signing of Fynn Lastring to the Lobos’ 2026 freshman class. The 6-10 German center comes to UNM after playing for club teams RASTA Vechta and the Artland Dragons in his native country.
Lastring played for both RASTA Vechta and the Artland Dragons during the 2025-26 season in Germany. For Vechta 2, he is averaging 11.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 61.7 percent from 2-point range and 45.1 percent from beyond the arc. He has appeared in 26 games for Artland, averaging 5.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.
Last summer, Lastring has an impressive showing for Germany at the FIBA U18 EuroBasket in Serbia. Over seven games at the tournament, he averaged 12.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
“Fynn is a highly skilled forward that has proven himself as a versatile and productive player in elite international competition,” said head coach Eric Olen. “He has also competed in high-level club basketball in Germany, with both RASTA Vechta and the Artland Dragons. Fynn is a versatile player that can really stretch the floor while also being able to exploit mismatches in the paint. He has shown excellent play making ability and anticipation on the backboards. His unique skill set is one that our fans will enjoy watching and we look forward to him being an impactful player upon arrival.”
“The experiences I’ve gained playing for different teams have been very important for my development,” said Lastring. “Thanks to RASTA’s support over the past two years, I already feel well prepared for the NCAA. I am ready for the challenge of going to the USA and know that Coach Olen and his staff will help me take the next step in my career. I am excited to become a Lobo and look forward to getting to play in front of so many great fans at The Pit.”
