New Mexico wrapped up its first day of competition at the Pacific Coast Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational Thursday in Long Beach and Azusa with eight new personal bests and six marks that rank among the Top 10 in school history in their respective events.

Competition resumes tomorrow at the Beach Invitational (Long Beach, Calif.), the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa, Calif.) and the Mt. SAC Relays (Walnut, Calif.), with live results available via GoLobos.com/TrackResults. 

BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL

Men’s Steeplechase (Open)
85. Kipruto Koech - 9:32.91

Koech opened his outdoor season with a 9:32.91 clocking in the Men’s Steeplechase over in Azusa, finishing 85th overall. It’s almost 21 seconds faster than his 9:53.89 season-opening time last season as a true freshman.

Women’s 10,000m (Invite Heat 1)
23. Nicola Jansen - 34:17.60

Jansen ran 34:17.60 in her 10K opener – a time that would rank among the Top 50 in the West Region on the performance list heading into this weekend – to finish 23rd overall in the first invite section in Azusa.

Women’s 100 Hurdles
2. Adryana Shelby - 13.55 (+1.2)*

Shelby recorded the second-fastest 100 hurdles performance in school history as she finished second in Long Beach – it’s the fastest 100 hurdles time from a Lobo woman since Angela Whyte ran an altitude-converted 13.41 in 2000.

Lobos went 2-3-4 in the Women’s 400, with Eva Ngom leading the way with a new lifetime best of 53.05 that moves her into the UNM Outdoor Top 10 list in the event at No. 5. Lou-Anne Pouzancre Hoyer closed in 53.57 to improve on her 53.97 season opener last weekend at Texas A&M and finish third ahead of an outdoor PB from Sofia Pineda (54.03) that moved her up to No. 6 on the outdoor list. 

Men’s 400 Dash
2. Kahari Wilbon - 47.65

Wilbon won the opening heat with a 47.65 clocking – his sixth sub-48 second performance in a row dating back to the beginning of the indoor season – to finish second overall in Thursday’s field.

Women’s 100 Dash
29. Laylah Lawson - 11.87 (+1.7)
68. Victoria Kwarteng - 12.34 (+3.2)

UNM 400 hurdles record holder Hanna Kiess put down a strong 58.17 – the second-fastest in the MW so far this season – after opening with a 1:00.18 last weekend at Texas A&M. Adryana Shelby (1:01.73) improved on her 1:01.85 performance last weekend in her collegiate debut in the event to finish 13th.

Men’s 400 Hurdles
1. Levente Soos - 51.57
4. Semaj Thompson - 53.24

Levente Soos improved on his 52.70 season-opening time from College Station last weekend with an individual win in 51.57, with Semaj Thompson running 53.24 in his first 400 hurdles race of the year to finish fourth behind him.

Taniya Looney won the women’s 200 by .24 seconds with a 23.17 time that ranks second on the UNM outdoor list, with Lou-Anne Pouzancre (23.49) and Eva Ngom (23.63) also posting new personal bests to finish third and fourth overall – their times rank No. 4 and No. 7 among UNM outdoor 200m races all-time. Behind them Laylah LAwson (24.23) and Victoria Kwarteng (24.98) both ran new wind-legal lifetime bests.

Men’s 200 Dash
20. Kahari Wilbon - 21.51 (+2.0)*

Wilbon ran a 200 all-conditions best in his second race of the day with a wind-legal 21.51, crossing 20th overall and second in the sixth heat.

Women’s Long Jump
2. Ajia Hughes - 6.04m / 19' 9¾" (+1.6)*
3. Mikyla Harkley - 5.98m / 19' 7½" (+1.4)*
5. Hannah Vincent - 5.87m / 19' 3¼" (+2.3)
14. Lauren Fowler - 5.52m / 18' 1½" (+2.4)

Hughes and Harkley both improved on their previous long jump marks from this outdoor season with 6.04m and 5.98m jumps to finish second and third overall, with Hannah Vincent (5.87m) and Lauren Fowler (5.52m) both coming just two centimeters shy of their previous marks as they finished fifth and 14th.

Women’s Triple Jump
1. Ajia Hughes - 12.38m / 40' 7½" (+0.0)

The only Lobo with a mark in the triple jump, Ajia Hughes won the event with a 12.38 leap on her third attempt, just shy of her 13.49 season best to open the season at the NM Spring Invitational.

Women’s Pole Vault
18. Jacquelyn Gorman - 3.76m / 12' 4"*
23. Sofia Kazanova - 3.61m / 11' 10"

Gorman improved on her previous mark for the second time this outdoor season as she cleared 3.76m on her fifth attempt before scratching out at the 3.91m mark. Sofia Kazanova jumped 3.61m on her second go-round to finish 23rd.

Men’s Pole Vault
5. Arian Milicija - 5.08m / 16' 8"

Milicija cleared above five meters for the eighth meet in a row dating back to the beginning of the indoor season as he finished fifth overall.
