LAS VEGAS, Nev.— Ahead of the start of the Mountain West Championship set to begin Saturday, the conference announced postseason awards, which included two Lobos.
A season after earning MW Honorable Mention, junior guard Destinee Hooks was one of 10 MW players selected to the All-Mountain West Team, while freshman Laila Abdurraqib was selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Hooks averaged 11.7 points per game, scoring in double figures in 14 of the 20 conference games which included seven consecutive games with double digits. The Indiana native led the team in scoring in five games and tied for the team lead in one, and capped the conference schedule with a 22-point performance.
In her first season as a Lobo, Abdurraqib was among the best of the MW freshmen class, particularly when it came to three-point shooting. The Indiana native averaged 8.2 points per game, shooting 42.0% from the floor and 37.4 % from behind the arc. She finished in double figures in eight games made 34 three-pointers with a three-pointer in 16 conference games and eight games with multiple three-pointers.
Abdurraqib led the Lobos in scoring in two conference games, including a season-high 25 against Colorado State behind seven three-pointers. The seven three-pointers were the most made by a MW player this season and tied the MW record for most three-pointers made in a game by a freshman, last done in 2019.
