ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Head football coach Jason Eck has announced that Mitchell Mueller has joined the program as its new Director of Football Equipment Operations. He comes to UNM after spending the last three seasons at Kansas State.
With the Lobos, Mueller will oversee all areas of equipment operations, from uniforms to practice gear. He will also oversee a large student staff and serve as a liaison for UNM with many outside entities for the program, including CoachComm, Riddell, and other equipment manufacturers. He will also work with Jacque May, assistant A.D. for equipment, in coordinating all Nike orders.
“Really excited to bring in an experienced person like Mitchell, who not only has worked at the Power-4 level, but also has interned in the NFL with Tampa Bay,” said Eck. “He comes highly recommended and will be a great addition to our staff.”
Mueller spent the 2023 through 2025 seasons with the Kansas State Wildcats as an assistant football equipment manager, overseeing the student and volunteer staff. In addition to daily practice coordination, he served as an assistant coordinator for the advance equipment truck, inventorying and packing all KSU game gear for road trips. He also assisted with uniform and helmet fittings and used the latest technology to coordinate and distribute equipment and supplies.
In 2022, Mueller served in a similar capacity at the University of Memphis, again serving as the lead for Tiger away trips and overseeing a staff of 12 student equipment managers.
Mueller also served two internships with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in 2019 and during the 2021 season, gaining NFL experience in laundry services and serving as the main coordinator for the One Buc locker room, Tampa Bay’s main practice facility. Mueller also handled ball duties during select away games.
He got started in the equipment services area as an undergraduate at Bowling Green, working with 13 of Bowling Green’s 17 varsity sports. He graduated from Bowling Green in 2022 with a degree in liberal arts and sciences.
