After tossing six innings of shutout ball in UNM’s series-clinching win over Fresno State on Saturday, New Mexico’s Ryan Castillo has been named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.
It’s the second Pitcher of the Week honor of Castillo’s career and his first this season.
The junior righty threw six shutout innings as UNM clinched the weekend series with a 5-2 win in Game Two on Saturday, striking out five and scattering four hits in the process to post a staff-best 1.17 WHIP and hold opponents to a .190 average.
Castillo didn't surrender a single extra base hit and only allowed two Fresno baserunners to reach scoring position in those six innings.
