LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play Monday at the Lady Luck Invitational with the first two rounds of play at the Las Vegas Country Club. The Lobos shot 38-over in challenging conditions to finish the day in 10th place.

New Mexico shot 23-over in the morning before shooting 15-over in the afternoon. No team finished the opening day under par as No. 16 UCF leads the field at 8-over through 36 holes.

Ciara Rushmer led the Lobos during the first day, shooting rounds of 6-over and 1-over to finish the day in the top 25 individually ay 7-over. Ava Cepeda is at 9-over through two rounds, while Chelsea Truong is at 10-over. Truong’s day was highlighted by a 1-under opening round. Rebecca Galasso and Maria Caparros Levin round out the lineup, each at 19-over through 36 holes.

“It was pretty tough playing in the gusty winds today, but we have no excuses,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Chelsea’s round one was fun to watch and Ciara held it together in round two. We need to lessen the mistakes we made today in order to move up leaderboard.”

The tournament concludes Tuesday in Las Vegas.
