STANFORD, Calif. –– The No. 21 New Mexico men’s golf team capped a strong performance at the The Goodwin on Saturday, with the Lobos posting a third-place finish as Mesa Falleur captured the individual title.

Among a deep 30-team field that featured 14 teams in the top 50 and 23 teams in the top 100 of the national rankings, the Lobos moved up from fifth to third during the final round by shooting even par. New Mexico finished third at 10-under for the tournament, trailing only host No. 23 Stanford at 17-under and No. 35 UCLA at 16-under. No. 31 Long Beach State (7-under) and No. 24 BYU (6-under) rounded out the top five and were the only other teams to finish in red numbers.

Falleur shot a 4-under 66 to win the tournament with a 12-under total of 198, becoming just the eighth Lobo to shoot below 200 for a 54-hole event. It was his second win of the season, third of his career, as he joins Bastien Amat (2023-24) as the only Lobos in the past decade to win multiple times in a season.

Johnnie Clark shot 1-over on Saturday to finish T-17th at 2-under for the tournament. Thayer Plewe also shot 1-over in the final round, while Wyatt Provence shot 2-over and Emil Albers shot 3-over.

“Coming into this event, we knew it always all about competing and battling to the end,” said head coach Jake Harrington. “Playing in The Goodwin comes with playing in the largest field in all of college golf, a field with 14 teams in the top 50 of the country. We came out with a 9-under first round to be in third place, which helped us finish 10-under for the tournament. Mesa showed who he can be with 3-under, 5-under, 4-under to win as an individual. We fought to the very end, with a birdie on 18 from Johnnie Clark to get us third place against a great field.”

The Lobos will conclude the regular season Apr. 10-11 with a trip to Phoenix for the ASU Thunderbird Intercollegiate.
