PHOENIX – The New Mexico women’s golf team concluded play Wednesday at the PING/ASU Invitational with the third round of play at the Papago Golf Course. The Lobos shot 8-over during the final round to finish in 12th place at 29-over.
No. 2 USC won the tournament at 23-under, while host No. 23 Arizona State was runner-up at 12-under. Cal State Fullerton was third at 9-under, Baylor was fourth at 7-under and Kansas was fifth at 5-over.
Freshman Ava Cepeda completed one her best performances of her first collegiate season, shooting a final round 3-under 69 on Wednesday, tying her lowest round of the year. She finished T-14th on the individual leaderboard at 2-under, her first collegiate tournament under par.
Chelsea Truong shot 4-over on Wednesday, while Ciara Rushmer shot 4-over. Rebecca Galasso carded a 5-over final round, while Juliette Hole rounded out the lineup at 9-over.
“The course played tough today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “There were a lot of tucked pins, which makes Ava’s 69 that much more impressive. I saw a lot of good things heading into our final regular season tournament in two weeks.”
The Lobos conclude the regular season April 7-8 with another trip to Arizona for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, held in Maricopa.
