PHOENIX – The New Mexico women’s golf team continued play Tuesday at the PING/ASU Invitational with the second round of play at the Papago Golf Course. The Lobos shot 11-over during the second 18 holes to be tied for 12th place at 21-over for the tournament,   

No. 2 USC holds the second-round lead at 24-under, while No. 26 Baylor is in second place at 13-under. Host No. 23 Arizona State is third at 10-under, Cal State Fullerton is fourth at 5-under and Kansas is fifth at 2-over.

Ava Cepeda led the Lobos on Tuesday with a 1-under 71. She is the top Lobo on the individual leaderboard in 27th place at 1-over for the tournament. Ciara Rushmer shot a 2-over 74 for the second straight day and is at 4-over for the tournament. Chelsea Truong shot 4-over on Tuesday, while Rebecca Galasso shot 8-over and Juliette Hole shot 10-over.   

“Ava played solid today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Even after a double on No. 18, our ninth hole, she made some great birdies on the second nine to shoot under par.”

The tournament concludes Wednesday in Phoenix.
