PHOENIX – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play Monday at the PING ASU Invitational with the first round of play at the Papago Golf Course. The Lobos shot 10-over during the first 18 holes to be tied for 10th place after day one.
No. 2 USC holds the first round lead at 17-under, while No. 26 Baylor is in second place at 9-under. Cal State Fullerton is in third at 7-under, host No. 23 Arizona State is fourth at 6-under and No. 14 UCLA rounds out the top five at 3-under.
Juliette Hole led New Mexico on Monday, shooting an even par 72 in the first round, highlighted by a hole-in-one on the par 3 11th. She is T-24th on the individual leaderboard. Ciara Rushmer and Ava Cepeda each shot 2-over, Rebecca Galasso shot 4-over and Chelsea Truong rounded out the lineup with a 7-over first round.
“Our team played pretty solid today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “We lost a few shots towards the end of the round. We had way too many 3-putts, so we will clean that up tomorrow.”
The tournament continues Tuesday and concludes Wednesday in Phoenix.
