ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Joy Benefiel and Shelby Morose, two members of the Lobo Academics Staff, have earned promotions, announced Chris Hudson, Senior Associate AD, Student-Athlete Success and Leadership. Benefiel is now serving as Assistant A.D. of Student-Athlete Success, and Morose is now serving as Assistant Director of the Lobo Center for Student-Athlete Success.
Benefiel, who has overseen academics for football and volleyball, was previously named Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Success, a position that she has held since January of 2020. Benefield oversees a three-person team that supports academics for Lobo Football, and in the last three semesters, the program has posted three straight team GPAs. In 2025, the Lobo Football team had two CSC Academic All-Americans.
Prior to coming to UNM, Benefiel spent 11 years at Colorado State in various positions for academic support.
Morose, who oversees academics for women’s basketball, track & field, cross country, and men’s tennis, previously served as a student eligibility specialist since February of 2023. As the Assistant Director, Morose will take on additional responsibilities for the Center, including scheduling and overseeing UNM’s tutoring program, as well as her academic oversight duties.
“Both Joy and Shelby are integral members of our team,” said Chris Hudson. “They have been key members of our staff and have a great passion for our students and their success. Their leadership has been invaluable.”
