TUCSON, Ariz. –– The No. 18 New Mexico men’s golf team began play Monday at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate. When darkness halted play late in the second round, the Lobos were in eighth place at 3-over for the tournament.  

Long Beach State leads the tournament at 21-under, with host Arizona in second at 19-under. Arizona State is third at 17-under, Oklahoma is fourth at 7-under and Colorado is fifth at 6-under.   

Thayer Plewe and Johnnie Clark led the Lobos on Monday, each ending the day at 1-under. Each shot 2-under during Monday’s first round and are each 1-over during the second round with several holes left to play. Mesa Falleur is at even par at the end of Monday’s play, while Wyatt Provence is 7-over and Clark Sonnenberg is at 8-over.   

The Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate will resume the second round at 7am on Tuesday, followed by the final round of play at Tucson Country Club.
