SAN JOSE, Calif. — New Mexico dropped the series finale to San Jose State on Sunday afternoon despite another strong team pitching performance, falling 3-0 at Excite Ballpark as the Spartans (7-12, 2-1 MW) clinched the weekend series.

The Lobos (13-7, 1-2 MW) were limited to four hits and were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities, stranding 11 runners and going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Anthony Diaz, Lenny Ashby, Gene Trujillo, and Khalil Walker accounted for New Mexico’s hits, with Diaz recording the Lobos’ lone extra-base hit on a double in the first inning.

San Jose State scored the game’s first run in the second inning on an RBI double before adding another in the third on a two-out RBI single. The Spartans extended the lead to 3-0 in the seventh when a run came home on a wild pitch.

On the mound, RHP Diego Alvarez took the loss after allowing one run in 1.1 innings before LHP Cooper Corkrean provided 4.2 strong innings of relief, being tagged for two runs (one earned) with a career-high six strikeouts. RHP Luke Wiseman and LHP Samuel Jackson combined to work the final two innings out of the bullpen, keeping the Spartans off the board the rest of the way.
