COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- For the second time this season, a Lobo has been named Mountain West Freshman of the Week as Albuquerque's Vianca Corley earned the honor after going 3-0, leading UNM to a sweep of New Mexico State and Northern Arizona.
Grand Canyon's Bella Crossman was named the Mountain West Player of the Week as well.
Corley went 3-0 on the week, including two match-clinching wins at No. 2 singles as New Mexico improved to 7-2 on the season.
Against New Mexico State, she came back from down 1-6, 1-2 to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Whitney Moon, clinching UNM's 4-1 win. Against Northern Arizona, teamed with twin sister Vivica for the first half of the doubles point, and then clinched the victory with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win at No. 2 over Andrea Noguera, coming back from down 5-4 in the first set.
Has now won four of her last five matches at No. 2 singles. She joined Kathy Tsai as Lobos who have been named Mountain West Freshman of the Week this season.
UNM hosts Abilene Christian on Saturday at 10 am and then Lubbock Christian at 2 pm in a doubleheader. It's a very busy Saturday with baseball playing a doubleheader at noon at Lobo Field, softball hosting a tournament all day at Lobo Softball Field, and Lobo Basketball hosting San Diego State at a sold-out Pit on CBS.
Fans attending the tennis matches are directed to park in the Gutierrez and Baseball South lots to avoid paying for parking.
