PALM DESERT, Calif. – The New Mexico women’s golf team continued play at its opening event of the spring on Sunday with the second round of the Alice and John Wallace Golf Classic at Monterey Country Club. The Lobos shot 23-over during the second round to finish the day in 14th place at 44-over.     

No. 2 USC continues to lead the event as the only team under par, sitting at 15-under through 36 holes. UCLA is second at 9-over, while Eastern Michigan is third at 11-over. Vanderbilt is fourth at 13-over while host Long Beach State rounds out the top five at 15-over.   

Ava Cepeda led UNM during the tournament’s second round, shooting a 2-over 73 to climb into the top 30 of the individual leaderboard at 6-over. Ciara Rusher shot 6-over, Chelsea Truong shot 7-over and Rebecca Galasso shot 8-over during Sunday’s round, while Maria Caparros Levin rounded out the lineup with a 9-over round. Juliette Hole, playing as an individual, shot 5-over.    

The tournament concludes Monday in Palm Desert.
