LUBBOCK, Texas --- New Mexico won a wild doubles point, and Philip Bosin won again, but UNM couldn't get enough as the short-handed Lobos lost 5-2 to the host Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Texas Tech moved to 6-1, while UNM dropped to 3-7 with one more road match, at Santa Clara, on tap before finally returning home after nine straight away from home.
After doubles were split 1-1 with Bosin and Dario Ciobotaru winning 6-4, and Tyler Waddock and Connor Dils losing by that same score, UNM got the point when Alberto Perez and Jakub Prachar won at No. 1 in a tiebreaker 7-6 (8-6), giving UNM a 1-0 lead.
However, UNM couldn't get a singles match when it needed it, with Texas winning four of six first sets and taking four straight singles matches to close it out. Down 4-1, Bosin got UNM a point with a 6-3, 7-5 win, and Alberto Perez had a chance for a win, but he lost a second-set tiebreaker 9-7 and then the 10-point third-set tiebreaker 11-9.
