LIHUE, Hawaii –– The No. 19 New Mexico men’s golf team concluded play Saturday at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate with the final round at the Ocean Course at Hokuala. The Lobos shot 1-over during the third round to finish the event in fourth place at 1-under. It was the Lobos’ fifth top-four finish in six events this season.

Loyola Marymount won the event with a 10-under total. UNLV and Texas A&M tied for second at 5-under, with the Lobos in fourth at 1-under. Long Beach State rounded out the top five at 1-over.

Mesa Falleur led the Lobos during the final round, shooting 2-under to finish the event T-3rd at 6-under. It was Falleur’s third top-five finish of the season. Johnnie Clark, Emil Albers and Thayer Plewe each shot 1-over on Saturday. Clark and Albers each finished in the top-20 individually, Clark T-14th at even and Albers T-18th at 1-over. Wyatt Provence rounded out the lineup with a 3-over round on Saturday, while Clark Sonnenberg shot 2-over as an individual.

"I am proud of how disciplined the guys stayed all day," said head coach Jake Harrington. "It's tough to stay mentally focused during a six-hour round of golf with winds around 20-25 mph all day. We knew par was going to matter and that we needed to grind on everything. Our senior, Mesa Falleur, came up big again for us with an incredible round of 2-under today and another top-five finish. Johnnie and Emil also had great weeks and Thayer and Wyatt came up big during different rounds for the team. I am also proud of Clark Sonnenberg turning in his best round of the week in the final round when the conditions were the toughest. I think we learned a lot about ourselves this week and we continue to get better with each tournament. I look forward to our next tournament in Las Vegas."

The Lobos return to action next month, playing the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas on March 1-3.
