ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The No. 19 New Mexico men’s golf team returns to action this week with a trip to Hawaii for the John A. Burns Intercollegiate. The event, hosted by Hawaii, will run Thursday through Saturday at Ocean Course at Hokuala on the island of Kauai.
Each day will feature one round of play at the par-70, 7,098 yard course. Live scoring will be available on Clippd.
The tournament in its 49th year is the seventh-longest running collegiate men’s tournament in the nation. This year’s tournament features a field of teams, including 15 ranked in the top 100 nationally. The No. 19 Lobos are the highest ranked team in the field and are joined by six other top-50 squads in No. 22 San Diego State, No. 23 Utah, No. 30 BYU, No. 32 Texas A&M , No. 38 UNLV and No. 42 Long Beach State. Saint Mary’s, Loyola Marymount, Washington State, Missouri, Cal, UTEP, Santa Clara, Grand Canyon, Miami (Ohio), San Francisco, Fresno State and host Hawaii round out the field.
The Lobos will feature a lineup of Emil Albers, Mesa Falleur, Wyatt Provence, Thayer Plewe and Johnnie Clark. Clark Sonnenberg will make his season debut at the event, playing as an individual.
New Mexico has finished in the top four of five of six events this season, including a win at The Wohali.
The John A. Burns Intercollegiate has long been a fixture on the Lobos’ schedule. New Mexico has won the tournament three times, in 2001, 2004 and 2022.
