COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico’s Tomislav Buljan was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Buljan was honored after posting a pair of double-doubles in his first two conference games.
Buljan’s honor is his third of the season and the third overall for a Lobo. His three honors are second-most by a Lobo since the award debuted, trailing only JT Toppin’s eight awards in 2023-24.
Buljan averaged 20.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game last week, shooting 17-24 from the field. In his Mountain West debut at Boise State on Tuesday, he had 16 points and 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. He followed that up with a dominant 25-point, 12-rebound performance in Saturday’s home win over Wyoming, setting a career high in points on 11-13 shooting from the floor, the highest FG% by a Lobo freshman in a conference game (min. 10 FGs). He joins Toppin (twice in 2023-24) and Kenny Thomas (twice in 1995-96) as the only UNM freshmen to record a 25 point/10 rebound game.
The Lobos (11-3, 2-1 MW) will travel this week to Colorado for a pair of games, visiting Colorado State on Tuesday (7pm) and Air Force on Saturday (1pm). Both games will air on the Mountain West Network.
