ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The UNM women's tennis team opens the 2026 season on Sunday with a pair of matches in an early-riser doubleheader. At 10 a.m., the Lobos will host the Western New Mexico Mustangs, and at 1 p.m., UNM will take on CSU Pueblo.

Both of those matches will take place at McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium, weather permitting. Western New Mexico and CSU Pueblo will play at 4 p.m. at McKinnon.

The Lobos will have a challenging 24-match slate, with five straight on the road after the opener. However, the Lobos are looking to return to their 2024 form, when UNM toppled the Mountain West and won the outright league title.

Three newcomers were the leaders in the fall individual season, with Ramona Petre winning a team-high seven matches in singles. That number was tied with Vivica Corley. The Albuquerque native also won seven matches, one more than her twin sister Vianca, who won six.

Overall, the Lobos were 42-42 in singles over the challenging fall, which saw several big winning streaks, including Vianca's four-match singles streak in winning the Bedford Cup and Ramona Petre's five-match doubles streak.
