WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. –– The No. 17 New Mexico men’s golf team concluded its first event of the spring on Wednesday with the third round of the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club. The Lobos shot 12-over during the final round to climb one spot to seventh place at 30-over amongst an elite field that included 11 top-60 teams.

No. 15 Pepperdine, the tournament’s host, was the only team to finish under par, winning with a total of 11-under. San Diego State was runner-up at 6-over, while UNLV (7-over), Washington (16-over) and USC and San Diego (each 18-over) rounded out the top five.

Emil Albers was UNM’s top individual finisher, shooting 3-over on Wednesday to finish T-11th overall at 1-over. Mesa Falleur had the low round of the day for New Mexico, carding a 2-over 72 to finish at 10-over. Thayer Plewe and Johnnie Clark each finished the tournament at 12-over, while Wyatt Provence finished at 20-over.

"This week was a very frustrating week, and with the redesign and firm greens, North Ranch Country Club really exaggerated any mishits as well as any uncommitted shots," said head coach Jake Harrington. "Emil played solid with an 11th place finish, but all of us will take advantage of the next week and a half what we really struggled with individually so we can be ready to compete for a trophy at the John Burns Intercollegiate."

The Lobos will return to action Feb. 12-14 with the John Burns Intercollegiate on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
